Is Skio compatible with Seller of Record (SoR)?

Prev Next

Yes, depending on your setup. Skio is fully compatible with Shopify Markets. The only exception is if you use Shopify Managed Markets, where subscriptions are limited to domestic orders only. Learn more below.

What is Seller of Record?

Seller of Record (SoR), sometimes referred to as Merchant of Record (MoR), is the entity that is legally responsible for processing transactions, taxes, and refunds. This includes charging customers, collecting and remitting taxes or VAT, issuing invoices, handling refunds and chargebacks, and ensuring compliance with local commerce regulations.

Stores may choose to use a Seller of Record model, often through a third-party provider to simplify international selling and compliance. Because this model changes who controls payments and billing, it can affect how subscriptions are supported, depending on the platform and configuration.

Skio compatibility

Skio subscriptions are fully compatible with standard Shopify Markets, where the Shopify store remains the Merchant of Record. In this setup, subscriptions can be sold across markets, and Skio supports localized pricing, currency conversion, and market-specific product catalogs.

If you are using Shopify Managed Markets, where Global-e acts as the Seller or Merchant of Record, subscriptions are not supported for international orders, including orders shipped to the European Union (EU). This is a limitation of Shopify Managed Markets itself. In this configuration, subscriptions only work for domestic orders.
