Note

The Overview Dashboard gives you a high-level view of your subscription business health and growth. Use it to track revenue trends, understand what's driving subscriber count changes, and monitor key performance indicators like cancellation rate and MRR.

Before you start

  • Check your dashboard version: This guide covers the latest version (V3) of the Overview Dashboard. If you're using an older version, some features and metrics may appear differently. You can identify V3 by the Net Subscription/Subscriber Change component and the Revenue Breakdown section.

  • Permissions required: You need admin access or access to analytics to view the Overview Dashboard. Learn more about permissions.

  • Data refresh frequency: The dashboards update every four hours. Data for the current day may lag slightly compared to real-time Shopify reporting.

  • What you should know: The V3 dashboard uses historical precision through a state change data model. This means past metrics stay fixed and won't change over time, making your trend analysis reliable. The dashboard updates every four hours with pre-calculated data for fast performance.

  • Exporting data: You can export the aggregated data as it appears in the tables on the dashboard. Raw, session-level data Exports are planned for a future update.

What is the Overview Dashboard?

The Overview Dashboard is your executive summary for subscription business performance. It answers critical questions like:

  • How is my overall subscription business performing in terms of revenue and active subscribers?

  • Am I growing or shrinking my subscriber base over time?

  • What are the specific drivers of my subscriber growth or decline?

  • Where is my revenue coming from: new sign-ups, recurring renewals, or one-time add-ons?

  • What is my daily cancellation rate, and are there patterns I should investigate?

The dashboard helps you get a quick pulse on your business and drill into details as needed.

Filters and KPI cards

At the top of the dashboard, you'll find controls for customizing your view:

  1. Date Range Picker: Select the time period you want to analyze

  2. Revenue Type Selector: Choose between Total Sales (including shipping and taxes), Net Sales (after discounts), or Gross Sales (before discounts)

  3. Granularity Selector: View data by Daily, Weekly, Monthly, or Quarterly periods

  4. Subscription Revenue: Total sales from all subscription orders, including new checkouts, recurring orders, and one-time add-ons

  5. Current MRR: Estimated monthly Recurring Revenue from all active subscriptions as of the last day of your date range

  6. Active Subscriptions: Count of unique active subscription contracts at the end of your date range

  7. Net Growth: Count of newly created subscriptions during your date range

Performance waterfall

The performance waterfall combines four key subscription metrics—active subscribers, subscriptions, distinct subscription lines, and total quantity—into a single visual breakdown. This helps you quickly understand how your subscriber base translates into actual product volume.

Subscription revenue distribution

The Subscription revenue distribution shows what percentage of your orders and revenue include a subscription product, across both checkout orders and all Shopify orders. Use it to understand how much of your overall business is driven by subscriptions and track that share over time:

  • Checkout orders with a subscription: The percentage and count of checkout orders that included a subscription product, out of all checkout orders placed during the selected date range.

  • Revenue from checkout orders with a subscription: The total revenue generated from checkout orders that included a subscription, and its share of all checkout order revenue.

  • All orders with a subscription: The percentage and count of all Shopify orders including recurring subscription orders that included a subscription product.

  • Revenue from all orders with a subscription: The total revenue from all subscription orders (first-time and recurring), and its share of all Shopify order revenue.

Each KPI card shows the change vs. the previous period and a progress bar with the raw counts for additional context.

The line graph below the cards lets you visualize how these percentages trend over time. Toggle between Checkout orders to see the daily percentage of checkout orders that included a subscription, and All orders to see the same view across your full Shopify order volume.

These metrics cover all orders within the selected date range. They do not break out new customers specifically. If that's something you're tracking, keep in mind that Skio only has order data from after your migration, so any new-customer take rate would be missing historical context.

Revenue Breakdown

A bar chart and summary table that segments your Total Subscription Revenue into three categories:

  1. First Subscription: Revenue from new subscription checkouts

  2. Recurring Subscription: Revenue from recurring subscription orders

  3. One-time Add-on: Revenue from one-time products added to recurring orders

You'll also see breakdowns by order count and unique customers for each category, helping you understand what drives your revenue mix. You can also toggle between Subscription Revenue and All Revenue (4).

Active Count

A time-series line chart plotting the daily counts of both Active Subscriptions and Active Subscribers over your selected period. This helps you spot growth trends and unusual spikes or drops.

Growth

This component directly answers "Why did my active subscriber count change?" It shows the exact inflows and outflows that explain the net change in active counts:

(1) Inflows (additions):

  • New subscriptions

  • Recovered (from failed payments)

  • Resumed (from paused state)

(2) Outflows (subtractions):

  • Cancelled

  • Entered Dunning (moved to failed payment status)

  • Entered Paused

The waterfall view shows you precisely which factors are driving growth or decline in your subscriber base. You can hover over the graph to find out more information on what data is being reflected (3)

Cancellation Rate

A time-series line chart visualizing your daily cancellation percentage. This metric shows what percentage of your active subscriptions were cancelled each day, helping you spot patterns or concerning trends. You can toggle between Subscription and Subscribers.

Daily Breakdown

A detailed data table breaking down all key metrics (Revenue, Orders, Status counts, Status Changes) by your selected time granularity. You can export this table for offline analysis.
