Note

Price-based volume discounts are part of Skio’s Rules feature. To configure them, make sure you have access to the Rules section with the appropriate user permissions.

What are price-based volume discounts?

Merchants can create discount rules based on the total value of a customer's order, not just the quantity of items. This feature gives you more flexibility to encourage higher spend, especially when selling bundles, high-ticket items, or mixed carts.

This is different from standard volume discounts, which are based on item count (e.g., "Buy 3 items, get 15% off").

How to create a price-based volume discount rule in Skio

Step 1: Go to the Rules page

From your Skio dashboard, click Rules in the left-hand nav, then click New rule.

Step 2: Choose the Price-based volume discount rule type

Select Price-based volume discount from the list of rule types.

Step 3: Select which products the rule applies to

  • All products: Applies the discount based on the cart total across all products.

  • Select products: Applies the discount only to a subset of items. The discount calculation uses the subtotal for those selected products only.

Step 4: Define discount tiers by spend threshold

  • Discount type: Choose whether the discount will be a fixed amount off ($ Off) or a percentage off (% Off) the order total.

  • To add a new tier:

    • Enter the minimum spend threshold a customer must reach to qualify for the discount (e.g., spend at least $200).

    • Set the discount (e.g., 10% or $10 off).

    • Click Add Tier to define multiple thresholds.

Step 5: Configure rule settings and scheduling

  • Rule name (internal-only)

  • Discount title (customer-facing): Shown in checkout and customer portal (e.g., "Buy More & Save")

  • Start/end date (optional): Leave blank to activate immediately.

  • Apply to one-time products: Check this box to include one-time products. If unchecked, the discount rule will only apply to subscription products. 

Step 6: Review and activate the rule

Review your configuration and click Create Rule. If no start date is set, the discount is live immediately.


How the discount appears to customers

What customers see in the cart

When a customer's cart reaches a spend threshold, the discount is automatically applied. The discount title appears along with the calculated savings. If they add/remove items and move between tiers, the discount updates in real time.

Similar to the cart, the discount title appears along with the calculated savings.

Note

Skio uses your store's default currency for spend thresholds and converts automatically for international customers via Shopify. 

What customers see in the Skio customer portal

If a subscription is below the lowest threshold, customers see a banner telling them how much more to add to get the discount. Clicking View eligible items shows products they can add.

Once they cross a tier by editing their subscription, the discount applies automatically. If they drop below a tier, the discount is removed and the banner returns.
