Note

Volume discounts are part of Skio’s Rules feature. To configure them, make sure you have access to the Rules section with the appropriate user permissions.

What is a volume discount?

A volume discount automatically gives your customers a discount when they subscribe to a certain number of products. It’s a simple way to reward high-value customers and encourage larger recurring orders.

For example, you can offer an extra 5% off if a customer has 3 or more items in their subscription.

Skio supports two types of volume discounts:

  • Standard volume discounts: Triggered by product quantity in the subscription.

  • Price-based volume discounts: Triggered by the total value of products in the subscription. Learn more about price-based volume discounts.

How standard volume discounts work in Skio

You can configure volume discounts to apply when a subscription meets a specific quantity threshold. Skio automatically checks the total number of products in a customer's subscription and applies the discount if the threshold is met.

You control:

  • The discount type: percentage (e.g., 10% off) or fixed amount (e.g., $5 off)

  • The qualifying products: apply the rule to all products or only selected ones

  • The quantity threshold: define how many items trigger the discount

This feature helps increase average order value and customer retention—especially for brands with multi-product bundles or cross-sell strategies.

How to create a volume discount rule in Skio

Step 1: Go to the Rules page

From your Skio dashboard, click Rules in the left-hand nav, then click New rule.

Step 2: Choose the volume discount rule type

Select volume discount from the list of rule types and then click Continue.

Step 3: Select which products the rule applies to

Choose which products should count toward the volume discount. Box subscription products are excluded and can't be selected.

You can select multiple products. If a customer has any combination of the selected products in their subscription that meets the quantity threshold, the discount will apply.

For example, if your rule is “Save 5% with 3 or more products” and you select all products:

  • A customer with 1 shampoo, 1 conditioner, and 1 hair mask would qualify.

  • A customer with 2 shampoos and 1 conditioner would also qualify.

To apply the discount only to a specific product type (e.g., shampoos):

  • Create a separate rule that includes only your shampoo products.

  • Repeat this for each group of products you want to discount.

Note

If you want to reward customers for buying multiples of a specific product, set up a dedicated rule for each one.

Step 4: Configure your volume discount

Define the discount type, quantity threshold, and any optional rule settings on the next screen:

  • Discount amount: Enter a value and choose whether it's a fixed amount ($) or percentage (%).

  • Quantity threshold: Set the minimum number of items needed to trigger the discount. For example: At least 3 items.

  • (Optional) Active from / to: Define a date range for when this rule should be active.

  • (Optional) Created date filter: Choose whether the rule should apply only to subscriptions created before or after a specific date.

  • Migrated subscribers: Select whether this rule applies to subscribers who were migrated into Skio. Note: this is checked by default.

  • (Optional) One-time products at checkout: Enable this if the rule should apply to one-time purchases at checkout.

  • Rule name: Internal label to identify this rule (e.g., $5 off 3+ items).

  • (Optional) Discount title at checkout: What customers will see at checkout (e.g., VOLUME DISCOUNT).

  • (Optional) Banner when rule is applied: Message shown when the discount is active. Example: Your subscription has a volume discount applied!

  • (Optional) Banner when rule is not yet applied: Message shown when the customer hasn’t yet met the criteria. Example: Add {{productsRemaining}} more item(s) to get "$5 off"!

Step 5: Review and activate your rule

Review your settings and click Submit. If no start date is set, the discount is live immediately.
