How to temporarily hide Subscribe & Save on product pages

Why temporarily hide subscription options on product pages?

You can temporarily hide the Subscribe & Save Plan Picker from your product detail pages (PDPs) without deleting or removing Selling Plans from your products. This is useful when you need to pause subscription offerings during promotions, inventory issues, or testing while keeping all subscription infrastructure intact for quick reactivation.

These methods only hide the subscription UI on your storefront. Your selling plans remain active in Shopify and Skio, so:

  • Existing subscribers can still manage their subscriptions normally

  • You can reactivate the plan picker at any time without rebuilding anything

  • Analytics and subscription data continue tracking as usual

If you also use third-party cart apps (like Rebuy or UpCart), you may need to hide subscription options in those tools separately.

Common scenarios

  • Running a promotion or sale where you want customers to purchase one-time only

  • Testing new product launches before offering them as subscriptions

  • Managing inventory shortages where you can't fulfill recurring orders

  • Pausing subscriptions on specific products while maintaining existing subscriber commitments

  • Conducting A/B tests on conversion rates with and without subscription options

  • Temporarily removing subscriptions during high-traffic events (like Black Friday) to simplify checkout

How to hide the plan picker

Choose the method that matches your Skio integration setup.

Method 1: Use the Theme Customizer (recommended)

This works if you're using the Skio app block in your theme.

Step 1: Navigate to your theme customizer

  1. In your Shopify Admin, go to Online Store > Themes

  2. Click Edit on your active theme

  3. Navigate to a product page template (usually Products > Default product)

Step 2: Hide the Skio app block

  1. Locate the Skio Subscriptions app block in your product template

  2. Click on the block to open its settings

  3. Under Widget layout, select Hidden

  4. Click Save

The plan picker will immediately disappear from all product pages, but your selling plans remain untouched.

Method 2: Remove the Skio app block

If you prefer to completely remove the block from your template:

Step 1: Navigate to your product template

  1. In your Shopify Admin, go to Online Store > Themes

  2. Click Customize on your active theme

  3. Navigate to Products > Default product (or whichever template you're using)

Step 2: Delete the app block

  1. Click on the Skio Subscriptions app block

  2. Click the trash/delete icon or select Remove block

  3. Click Save

This only removes the visual widget, your selling plans and subscription data remain fully active in Shopify and Skio.

Method 3: Hide the Liquid snippet (V1 integration)

If your theme uses the legacy Liquid integration:

Step 1: Locate the plan picker snippet

  1. In your Shopify Admin, go to Online Store > Themes

  2. Click the three-dot menu on your active theme and select Edit code

  3. Search your product template file (usually product-template.liquid or main-product.liquid) for {% render 'skio-plan-picker' %}

Step 2: Comment out the snippet

Wrap the render statement in Liquid comment tags:

{% comment %}
{% render 'skio-plan-picker' %}
{% endcomment %}

Or delete the line entirely. Click Save.

The plan picker will no longer appear on PDPs, but all subscription logic remains active in Shopify.

Method 4: Hide the Lit component (V2 integration)

If your theme uses the newer Lit-based component:

Step 1: Locate the component code

  1. In your Shopify Admin, go to Online Store > Themes

  2. Click the three-dot menu and select Edit code

  3. Search your product template for <skio-plan-picker>

Step 2: Remove or comment out the component

Either delete the <skio-plan-picker> element or wrap it in HTML comments:

<!--
<skio-plan-picker ...>
</skio-plan-picker>
-->

Click Save.

Additional considerations

Hiding subscriptions in third-party cart apps

If you use cart drawer apps like Rebuy or UpCart, they may display subscription options even when your PDP plan picker is hidden. To fully hide subscription offerings:

  1. Check your cart app's settings for subscription or selling plan visibility options

  2. Use custom CSS to hide subscription selectors if settings aren't available

  3. Contact the app's support team for guidance on temporarily disabling subscription display

Shop app visibility

The Shop app can expose selling plans even when they're hidden on your storefront. If you need subscriptions fully hidden during this period:

  1. In your Shopify Admin, go to Settings > Payments

  2. Scroll to Shop Pay

  3. Temporarily disable Subscriptions

  4. Re-enable when you're ready to show the plan picker again
