What is the LoyaltyLion integration?
LoyaltyLion is a Shopify loyalty and rewards app. Connecting it to Skio lets your subscribers earn and redeem LoyaltyLion rewards on their subscription orders, and lets you optionally display LoyaltyLion points and rewards inside the Skio Customer Portal.
See LoyaltyLion’s help center here.

Setting up a LoyaltyLion reward for subscriptions
LoyaltyLion offers a few reward types you can make available to your subscribers. The two most relevant for subscriptions are the discount reward and the Free product (subscriber) reward.
Discount reward
By default, a LoyaltyLion reward doesn't apply to subscription orders. To make a discount reward work with Skio subscriptions, you need to set its purchase type when you create it in LoyaltyLion.
In your LoyaltyLion account, go to Program > Rewards.
Click New Reward, then Discount.
Under Purchase type, choose Subscription Purchases or Both. Choosing One-Off Purchases only will not let the reward apply to a subscription.
If you want the discount to apply to more than one subscription payment, check Apply discount to future subscription payments, then choose whether it applies to a limited number of payments or to all future payments.
Finish setting up the reward and click Create Reward.
Free product (subscriber) reward
This reward lets a subscriber redeem points for a free product. Unlike the discount reward above, it's redeemed directly from the product page rather than as a code applied in the Skio Customer Portal.
In your LoyaltyLion account, go to Program > Rewards.
Click New Reward.
Under Free products, select Free product (subscriber).
Under Product, click Find product and select the product (and variants) this reward applies to.
Under Reward details, enter the Points cost.
Optional: under Customer redemption limit, check Limit how many times a customer can redeem this reward and set how often — for example,
1 time per day.Optional: under Reward inventory, check Add a LoyaltyLion inventory limit to cap the total number of times this reward can be redeemed.
Under Display, confirm the Title and Media. LoyaltyLion pulls these from the product by default — check Use this image wherever this reward appears to keep the reward image in sync with the product image.
Optional: add Terms and conditions.
Under Status, set the reward to
Activewhen you're ready for customers to see it.Under Availability, click Manage to confirm which Channels and Countries the reward is available in.
Click Create.
Setting up a Subscription Challenge
Challenges reward subscribers with points or another reward as their order count climbs, with an optional recurring bonus once they've reached every milestone.
Create the challenge
In your LoyaltyLion account, go to Engagement > Challenges.
Click Create challenge and select Subscription Challenge from the template list.
Under Challenge details, enter a Challenge name. This is only visible in your LoyaltyLion admin, not to customers.
Under Milestones, set the points or reward for each order-count milestone. Click Edit on an existing milestone to change it, or Add milestone to add another. Each milestone fires once, when the customer reaches that order count.
Setting up an ongoing reward
An ongoing reward keeps rewarding subscribers with a repeating bonus after they've completed every milestone.
Under Ongoing reward, click Add ongoing reward.
Choose the Reward type from the dropdown — for example,
Points.Enter the Amount to award each time.
Under Every, set how often the reward repeats — for example, every
1order.Optional: check Limit how many times it can fire to cap the number of times this reward pays out.
Optional: add a Label — this is how the reward is named on the loyalty page and in the customer's reward history.
Optional: add a Recurring panel description, which appears as a short subtitle wherever the ongoing reward is shown.
Notifications and display
Under Notifications, decide whether to keep Notify customers when this challenge awards points or a reward checked. This shows an on-site notification for each payout and when the challenge completes.
Under Display, set the Customer-facing title — for example,
Subscriber rewards— and an optional Description.Choose a Progression style — Linear, Steps, or Stacked — to control how the milestone progress bar looks to customers. Use the Preview panel to check how it will look before publishing.
When you're ready, click Save draft to keep working on it later, or Create and launch to make the challenge live.
How customers redeem LoyaltyLion rewards on a Skio subscription
Once a subscriber has enough points, they can claim a reward and apply it to their subscription from the Skio Customer Portal.
The customer claims their reward from the LoyaltyLion Rewards page (or from LoyaltyLion components embedded in the Skio Customer Portal, if you've added them).
The customer copies the discount code LoyaltyLion gives them.
In the Skio Customer Portal, the customer scrolls to the Discounts section, pastes the code, and clicks Apply.
Note: You can also display LoyaltyLion points and rewards directly inside the Skio Customer Portal using a custom code block. Go to Storefront > Customer Portal > Branding, and add LoyaltyLion's embed code to Custom block and Custom CSS. LoyaltyLion provides the exact code to use in their Skio integration manual. Customers need to be logged in for these components to display.
FAQ
What's the difference between a discount reward and a Free product (subscriber) reward?
A discount reward gives subscribers a code they apply in the Skio Customer Portal. A Free product (subscriber) reward lets them redeem points for a specific product directly from the product page.
Can I reward subscribers automatically as their subscription renews?
Yes. LoyaltyLion's Challenges feature includes a Subscription Challenge template that rewards subscribers at order-count milestones, plus an optional ongoing reward that repeats after every milestone is reached.
Do I need a developer to set up the LoyaltyLion integration?
No special coding is required. You'll need admin access to your Shopify theme editor to enable the SDK, and access to your Skio Dashboard to generate an API key and add a webhook.
What happens if I lose my API key?
Skio only shows your API key once, at the time it's generated. If you lose it, generate a new key from API and Integrations > API Keys > API and use it to reconnect LoyaltyLion.
