How do I set up loyalty time-based multipliers?

Prev Next

Before you start

  • You need an active Skio Loyalty program with credit rewards already configured.

  • Time-based multipliers currently apply only to established reward types: Customer birthday, Member anniversary, Credits per USD spent, Date of birth, Leave a review, and Signup for newsletter.

  • Only one multiplier applies per reward at a time. If two time-based multipliers on the same reward overlap, the one you created most recently takes precedence.

  • To show a countdown widget on the storefront, you'll need to add a block to your product template in your Shopify theme editor. This is a one-time setup step.

What are time-based multipliers?

A time-based multiplier is a temporary boost to one or more of your existing credit rewards, active only between a start time and an end time that you set. For example, you could boost Credits per USD spent to 2.4x for the week of Black Friday, so customers earn more credits than usual, but only within that window.

When the window ends, boosted rewards automatically revert to their base values. You don't need to do anything to turn the multiplier off.

How to set up a time-based multiplier

Step 1: Navigate to time-based multipliers

In the left-hand menu of your Skio Dashboard, go to Loyalty > Credits, then select the Time based multipliers tab.

Step 2: Name your multiplier and set the time window

  1. Click Create campaign.

  2. Enter an internal Campaign name, such as Black Friday boost. This name is for internal use only and isn't visible to customers.

  3. Set the Start time and End time, including the date, time, and time zone. The multiplier is only active between these two times.

Step 3: Choose which rewards to boost

Under Boosted rewards, toggle on each reward you want to include, then enter a Multiplier value for each one you've toggled on. The description under each reward updates automatically to show what customers will earn at that multiplier.

  • Customer birthday: Base — customers earn 100 credits ($1) on their birthday once a year.

  • Member anniversary: Base — customers earn 100 credits ($1) on their anniversary.

  • Credits per USD spent: Base — customers earn 10 credits ($0.10) for every $1 spent on all orders.

  • Date of birth: Base — customers earn 1 credit ($0.01) for entering their date of birth once.

  • Leave a review: Base — customers earn 1 credit ($0.01) for leaving a review.

  • Signup for newsletter: Base — customers earn 1 credit ($0.01) for signing up for the newsletter.

For example: If you set the multiplier to 2, customers earn double the normal rate for that reward. So if Credits per USD spent normally earns 10 credits per $1 spent, a 2x multiplier means customers earn 20 credits per $1 spent while the campaign is active — then it drops back to 10 once the campaign ends.

Step 4: (optional) Configure advanced settings and save

Below the boosted rewards list, this same screen also includes Advanced settings for restricting the multiplier to specific products or segments:

  • Only apply to specific products: The multiplier only applies to orders that include the products you select. Orders without those products earn at the normal rate.

  • Only apply to specific segments: The multiplier only applies to customers in the segments you select. Everyone else earns at the normal rate.

Both settings are optional. Leave them off to apply the multiplier to all orders and customers.

Click Create campaign to save and activate the multiplier for the window you set.

Step 5: Add the countdown block to your theme

The countdown widget doesn't appear on your storefront automatically. You need to add the Campaign countdown block to your product template once, and from then on it will show up on any eligible product while a multiplier is active.

  1. In Shopify Admin, go to Online Store, then click Edit theme on your live theme.

  2. Click on Home page at the top to open your pages, then Products > Default product (or your product template of choice).

  3. In the left-hand template sidebar under Product information, click Add block.

  4. Select Apps, then search for Campaign countdown from the block list.

  5. To configure your block settings, click on the Campaign countdown you just added in the panel on the right. Set a Title (for example, Limited time offer), choose a Text color, Countdown color, and Background color to match your store's branding.

  6. Click Save.

Warning: If you don't add the Campaign countdown block to your product template, the countdown widget won't appear on your storefront, even while a time-based multiplier is active.

How do multipliers interact with “VIP” tiers?

If a customer's VIP tier multiplier is higher than the active time-based multiplier, they automatically receive the higher value. Customers never earn less during a time-based multiplier window.

What if I have multiple multipliers that could apply?

Skio doesn't currently resolve conflicts between overlapping time-based multipliers. If two multipliers on the same reward overlap, the one you created most recently takes precedence. When a multiplier's end time passes, the reward automatically reverts to its base value with no data loss.

Customer experience

On the product page customers see a Limited time offer bar showing the multiplier and a live countdown, such as 2.4x credits ends in 1d 11:14:34. As the end time approaches, the countdown updates in real time.

What a subscriber sees on your storefront when a time-based multiplier is active on a product they're viewing.

This bar only appears when both of the following are true: the Campaign countdown block has been added to your product template, and the product qualifies for an active, eligible multiplier.
