Choosing your customer login experience in Skio

Prev Next

When you set up your store on Skio, how you configure customer login access to their customer portal affects both user experience and your team's workload. This guide explains your login options and helps you select the best approach for your store's needs.

Before you start

  • Review your existing app integrations that depend on Shopify login

  • Consider how this change affects your current customer support processes

  • Plan communication to existing customers if you're changing login methods

  • Skio's Migrations team will help configure these settings during your initial onboarding process

What's the best login setup for my store?

We recommend directing all customers to Skio's Customer Portal using passwordless login at /a/account/login. This provides the fastest, most secure experience while giving customers access to Skio's complete analytics and management features.

Your ideal setup depends on whether you're using Shopify's new customer accounts and if you need Shopify login for other app integrations.

How Shopify account types affect your setup

Your choice between Shopify's new customer accounts and legacy accounts impacts your Skio integration:

New Customer Accounts

Legacy Customer Accounts

  • Traditional password login with full Multipass support (Shopify Plus only)

  • Enables automatic login synchronization between Shopify and Skio

Option 1: Direct Skio login (recommended)

Route all customers (both subscribers and one-time buyers) directly to /a/account/login as your store's primary login destination. This works with any Shopify account type since it bypasses Shopify's login system completely.

For Shopify Plus users: If you have legacy accounts, you can enable Multipass for seamless login across both platforms.

Benefits

  • Fast, secure passwordless access

  • Unified dashboard showing historical Shopify orders alongside subscription data

  • No need to manage Shopify account activation

  • Reduces customer support tickets related to login issues

  • Maximizes Skio's analytics capabilities for better customer insights

Note

Best for stores that don't rely on Shopify login for loyalty programs, referral systems, or other app integrations.

Option 2: Shopify login with portal link

Use Shopify's native login as the default experience, then provide a clear path to Skio's subscription management portal.

Implementation: Direct customers to /a/account/shopify-login

How it works

  1. Customers log into Shopify (using password for legacy accounts or one-time code for new accounts)

  2. You add a prominent subscription management link within Shopify's account interface

  3. All subscription actions (skip, swap, cancel, analytics review) occur within Skio's portal

Note

Best for stores that require Shopify login for other connected applications or have existing customer workflows built around Shopify's account system.

Option 3: Dual login options (not recommended)

Some merchants display both Shopify login and a separate "Manage Subscriptions" link on the same page.

Why we don't recommend this approach

  • Creates customer confusion about which login to use

  • Adds unnecessary friction to the subscription management process

  • Reduces the effectiveness of Skio's unified customer experience

  • Can lead to increased support requests

Multipass integration for Shopify Plus stores

Automatic login synchronization between Shopify and Skio requires specific setup and is only available with legacy customer accounts.

Requirements:

  • Active Shopify Plus subscription

  • Legacy customer accounts (not new customer accounts)

  • Multipass enabled and connected to Skio

How Multipass works:

  • Logging into Shopify automatically logs customers into Skio

  • Provides seamless experience across both platforms

Note

Logging into Skio does not automatically log customers into Shopify

How to choose the right approach

Choose direct Skio login if you want to

  • Provide the simplest, most streamlined customer experience

  • Maximize Skio's analytics and revenue optimization features

  • Reduce login-related support requests

  • Use passwordless authentication for better security

Warning

This option is not recommended if you need Shopify login for other apps like loyalty programs, reviews, or referrals.

Choose Shopify login with portal link if you

  • Need Shopify login for other apps (loyalty programs, reviews, etc.)

  • Have existing customer workflows built around Shopify accounts

  • Are using Shopify's new customer accounts

  • Require integration with Shopify-dependent systems and apps

Consider adding Multipass if you

  • Are on Shopify Plus with legacy customer accounts

  • Want seamless login across both platforms without requiring separate authentication

  • Need to maintain Shopify login while providing automatic Skio access
