What are billing & order settings in Skio?

The Billing & order settings section lets you configure when subscriptions bill, how inventory is managed, and how subscription orders are processed. These settings affect order timing, merging behavior, discount stacking, and cancellation policies.

How do I configure billing & order settings?

You'll need admin access to your Skio Dashboard to configure these settings.

Step 1: Navigate to Billing & order settings

In the left-hand menu of your Skio Dashboard, go to Settings > Billing & orders.

Step 2: Configure your preferred settings

Billing window

Controls the time window during which subscription orders are processed each day.

  • Select eligible billing days by clicking the day abbreviations.

  • Set your Starting hour (e.g., 12 am).

  • Set your Ending hour (e.g., 12 am Next day).

  • Select your Timezone (e.g., America/New_York).

Skio's Notifications accounts for your billing window settings when determining send times.

For example, if a subscription is scheduled to bill on Friday but your billing window only runs Monday through Thursday, the subscription will bill on Monday morning instead. Notifications will be sent based on the Monday billing date, not the original Friday schedule.

If your starting hour equals your ending hour, your billing window will be set to 24 hours. If all days are deselected, billing will be paused.

Auto-merge billing

Enables multiple subscriptions from the same customer to be merged into a single order when billing occurs. The customer's address and Payment Method must match to be merged.

  • Toggle Enable auto-merge billing to activate this feature.

  • Set Merge subscriptions within this many days (optional) to define the window for merging (e.g., 1 day).

  • Click Learn more about auto-merge for detailed setup instructions.

If enabled, Billing Time Synchronization will be enabled by default and cannot be disabled.

Billing time synchronization

Automatically adjusts subscriptions scheduled to bill later in the day (outside the set billing window) to be charged during the current billing window.

  • Toggle Enable billing time synchronization to activate.

  • For example, if the billing window is set from 12am to 5am UTC, and a subscription is set to bill at 6pm on the same day, this feature will ensure the subscription is billed within the 12am to 5am window.

Inventory policy

Decides what happens when a subscription item is out of stock.

  • Select your preferred option from the If items are out of stock dropdown:

    • Place order anyways (default)

    • Other inventory management options as configured

Show out of stock products

Controls whether out of stock products still appear in the product upsell and edit pages on the Customer Portal. Toggle Show OOS products to enable or disable visibility.

Back in stock notifications (Beta)

Sends automated back-in-stock notifications (Klaviyo only) for items missing in subscription orders due to stock shortage. Can be combined with a quick action to trigger a one-time order for the restocked item.

  • Toggle Enable back in stock notification to activate.

  • Set Max valid days for back in stock notification post-billing (e.g., 0 for immediate notifications).

  • Set Max valid days for quick action link post-billing (e.g., 0 to disable the quick action feature).

This feature works with the "Only order items in stock" inventory policy.

Allow discount code stacking

Lets customers apply more than one discount code to a subscription.

  • Toggle Enable discount stacking to allow multiple discount codes per subscription.

Order tags

Adds tags to orders for tracking and segmentation purposes.

  • Toggle Enable static BAB order tag to automatically tag Build-a-Box orders.

Stale 3DS subscription cancellation

Configures how long to wait before automatically canceling stale 3DS subscriptions (subscriptions requiring 3D Secure authentication that remain incomplete).

  • Set Days until cancel stale 3DS subscriptions (e.g., 180 days).

  • Leave empty to disable automatic cancellation of stale 3DS subscriptions.

Step 3: Save your changes

Once you've adjusted your settings, click Save changes in the top right to apply updates.

FAQ

What happens if I pause billing by deselecting all days?

Billing will be paused entirely. No subscription orders will process until you re-enable at least one billing day.

Can I use auto-merge billing without billing time synchronization?

No. If auto-merge billing is enabled, billing time synchronization is automatically enabled and cannot be disabled.

What is the difference between auto-merge billing and billing time synchronization?

Auto-merge billing combines multiple subscriptions into a single order if they're scheduled to bill close together. Billing time synchronization adjusts the billing time of subscriptions scheduled outside the billing window so they bill within the window.

How do back in stock notifications work?

Back in stock notifications send automated Klaviyo messages when out-of-stock items become available again. You can also include a quick action link that lets customers place a one-time order for the restocked item. This feature requires the "Only order items in stock" inventory policy.

What does "stale 3DS subscription" mean?

A stale 3DS subscription is one that requires 3D Secure authentication but hasn't been completed by the customer. You can configure how long to wait before automatically canceling these incomplete subscriptions.
