What are SMS quiet hours?
SMS quiet hours let you specify when text messages can be sent to subscribers, ensuring notifications only arrive during appropriate times of day.
With SMS quiet hours, you can:
Set a start and end time for when texts can be sent
Choose your store's timezone
Automatically detect each subscriber's local timezone so they receive messages during the time window in their own timezone (optional)
Quiet hours apply to both one-way SMS notifications and two-way SkioSMS messages. Login SMS codes are not affected by these settings to avoid login issues.
How do I set up SMS quiet hours?
In the lefthand menu of your Skio Dashboard, go to Features > SkioSMS.
Navigate to the Settings tab.
Enable SMS Quiet Hours.
Configure your settings:
Start time: When your SMS window begins (no texts send before this time)
End time: When your SMS window ends (no texts send after this time)
Timezone: Your store's local timezone
Customer timezone: Toggle on to detect each subscriber's local timezone based on their shipping address
You can adjust these settings at any time.
How do SMS quiet hours work?
Queued messages
If a text would normally send outside your time window, it will be queued and sent at the start of your next window.
Example
With a 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM time window, a subscriber who cancels their subscription at 6:00 PM will receive the cancellation confirmation text the next morning at 9:00 AM.tent goes here
Customer timezone detection
When enabled, Skio uses each subscriber's zip code to identify their local timezone. This ensures subscribers receive texts during your configured time window adjusted to their own timezone, not your store's timezone.
Example
With a 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM window and customer timezone detection enabled, a subscriber in California will receive texts between 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Pacific Time, while a subscriber in New York receives texts between 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Eastern Time.
FAQ
Can I adjust the time window at any time?
Yes, but any texts already queued will not be sent. We recommend adjusting these settings during non-peak times (like late at night or on weekends) to avoid losing queued messages.
Do SMS quiet hours affect two-way SMS management
Yes, quiet hours apply to both one-way notifications and two-way SkioSMS messages.
Do SMS quiet hours affect login codes?
No. SMS login codes send immediately regardless of your time window to avoid login issues.
What happens if a subscriber doesn't have a zip code on file?
If customer timezone detection is enabled but a subscriber's zip code isn't available, Skio defaults to your store's timezone.
Can I set different quiet hours for different notification types?
No, quiet hours apply to all SMS notifications and two-way messages uniformly.
