Overview
The Translations feature in Skio allows you to tailor customer-facing text to multiple languages, providing a personalized experience for your diverse customer base.
To access your Copies & Translations settings, select Storefront > Copies & Translations in the lefthand menu of your Skio Dashboard.
Setting up your default language
Your store’s default language is automatically set based on its locale. However, you can easily change this:
Select your desired language from the Language Selection dropdown.
Click Set as default to make it the primary language for your store.
This default language will be used unless specific locale settings are detected in the browser, URL, or Shopify theme.
Languages with automatic translations
Skio supports automatic translations for the following languages, making setup simple and efficient:

Adding and Managing Languages
Adding a New Language
Click Add language.
Choose the language you wish to add from the list.
Translate the text from your default language to the new language.
Creating Custom Languages
If your desired language isn't listed, you can create a custom language:
Click Add language.
Enter the locale code (e.g., "bn" for Bengali) in the "Create custom language" box.
Click Add.
For custom languages, you’ll need to manually input all translations, as Skio doesn’t support automatic translations for these.
Editing Translations
Ensure accuracy and relevance by reviewing and editing your translations:
Locate the text you want to edit in the language-specific section.
Click on the text box and make your changes.
Save your changes by clicking the green "Save" button at the top right corner.
Feature-Specific Translations
For features such as the cancel flow or selling plans, you must manually provide translations in all enabled languages. This ensures consistency and clarity for your customers.
Customer Language Display
Your customers will see the correct language automatically based on the following:
URL Parameters: Customers visiting a URL with a language-specific path (e.g.,
/fr/a/account/login) will see the portal in that language.Locale Selection in Shopify: If customers change their locale via a dropdown in the Shopify theme, the portal updates accordingly.
Browser Locale Settings: The portal adapts to the customer's browser settings if no specific locale is set.
Practical Examples
Setting the Default Language
Go to the Translations page.
Select "French (fr)" from the dropdown menu.
Click "Set as default" to make French the default language.
Adding a Language
Click "Add language."
Enter the locale code, such as "bn" for Bengali.
Add translations for each section in the Skio customer portal.
Editing an Automatic Translation
Select the language you want to edit, such as "Spanish (es)."
Find the "Login code" text box in the Spanish section.
Change the text from "Obtener un código (SMS y correo electrónico)" to your preferred wording.
Click "Save" to apply the changes.
