Customer login options in Skio

Before you start

When setting up your store on Skio, the way customers log in to their customer portal impacts both their experience and the amount of support your team needs to provide. This guide walks through the available login options and helps you choose the best fit for your store.

Review the following:

  • Review your existing app integrations that depend on Shopify login.

  • Consider how this change affects your current customer support processes.

  • Plan communication to existing customers if you're changing login methods.

  • Skio's Migrations team will help configure login settings during your initial onboarding process.

Recommended login setup

We recommend directing all customers to Skio's Customer Portal using passwordless login. Point your store’s login links to /a/account/login and customer’s can seamlessly login without a password. This provides the fastest, most secure experience while giving customers access to Skio's complete analytics and management features.

Passwordless login is Skio’s native login experience and requires no setup.

Customer login options

Skio supports multiple customer login configurations. The right option depends on whether you prioritize a streamlined subscription experience or need Shopify’s native login for other customer-facing tools.

Considerations

Direct Skio login (recommended)

Customers log in directly through Skio using passwordless authentication at /a/account/login

Example URL: www.yourstore.com/a/account/login

  • Fast, secure passwordless access

  • Unified dashboard showing historical Shopify orders alongside subscription data

  • No need to manage Shopify account activation

  • Reduces customer support tickets related to login issues

Not compatible with apps that require Shopify’s /account/login

Shopify login with Skio portal access

Customers log in through Shopify and access subscriptions via a link to the Skio Customer Portal. Direct customers to login via

Example URL: www.yourstore.com/a/account/shopify-login

  • Best for stores using loyalty, reviews, or other Shopify-authenticated apps

  • If your store has existing customer workflows built around Shopify's account system

Adds an extra step to reach subscription management:

  1. Customers log into Shopify (using password for legacy accounts or one-time code for new accounts)

  2. You add a prominent subscription management link within Shopify's account interface

  3. All subscription actions (skip, swap, cancel, analytics review) occur within Skio's portal

Shopify login with Multipass

Customers log in through Shopify and are automatically logged into Skio for a seamless experience

  • Automatic login synchronization between Shopify and Skio

  • Provides seamless experience across both platforms

  • Requires Shopify Plus

  • Only available with legacy customer accounts

Dual login setup (not recommended)

Customers can log in through both Shopify and Skio. This requires you to display both Shopify login and a separate subscription management link on one page.

  • Best for stores that want to display both Shopify login and a separate Manage Subscriptions link on the same page

  • Creates customer confusion about which login to use

  • Adds unnecessary friction to the subscription management process

  • Reduces the effectiveness of Skio's unified customer experience

  • Can lead to increased support requests

Shopify customer account types and login behavior

Your Shopify customer account type determines how customers authenticate and which login options are available in Skio. The right setup depends on whether you’re using Shopify’s new customer accounts and whether Shopify login is required for other app integrations.

Choosing between Shopify’s new customer accounts and legacy accounts directly impacts how Skio integrates with your store:

New Customer Accounts

Shopify’s new customer accounts provide a modern, passwordless login experience but have limitations when used with Skio. Stores using new customer accounts should expect customers to authenticate through Shopify and then access subscriptions via Skio’s portal.

Key characteristics:

  • Passwordless login managed by Shopify

  • Multipass is not supported

  • Customers must log in separately to access the Skio Customer Portal

For more details, see Using Skio with Shopify’s new customer accounts.

Legacy Customer Accounts

Legacy customer accounts use Shopify’s traditional email-and-password login and support deeper authentication integrations.

Key characteristics:

  • Password-based login

  • Multipass supported for store’s on Shopify Plus

  • Enables automatic login synchronization between Shopify and Skio

Legacy accounts provide the most flexibility when combining Shopify login with Skio, especially for Shopify Plus stores using Multipass.
