# Email Notifications

## What are Skio’s email notifications?

Skio includes built-in email notifications for key subscription events. These one-way alerts keep your subscribers informed about upcoming orders, shipping updates, payment issues, and more at no additional cost.

You can customize the content, timing, and sender information for each email notification, or route them through Klaviyo for advanced segmentation and personalization.

> By default, Skio email notifications send from `no-reply@reminders.skio.com`. To send emails from your own domain instead, contact Skio Support for custom domain configuration.

## How do I customize notifications in Skio?

### Step 1: Open the Notifications page

1. In your **Skio Dashboard**, go to **Retain > Email Notifications**.

### Step 2: Review and edit email notifications

You can customize the subject line and content for each email.

At the top of each notification you can see a list of available variables you can include in your email body.

### Step 3: Preview and enable

- Use the preview section to see how your message will appear to subscribers
- Toggle the notification on to enable it
- Check sending history to see if specific customers have received the notification

> [!CAUTION]
> If you want an email to send through Klaviyo instead, disable the notification in Skio entirely to avoid sending duplicate messages.

## What's included in email notifications?

Each email notification page includes:

- **Dynamic variables** that auto-populate subscriber-specific information like name, order details, and subscription status
- **Quick Action variables** that can be added from the Quick Actions tab to let subscribers manage their subscriptions directly from the email
- **HTML-based message body** where you can upload custom templates with your brand styling
- **Customizable subject line** to match your brand voice and improve open rates
- **Enable/disable toggle** to control which notifications are active
- **Preview functionality** to test how messages appear before sending
- **Sending history** to track which subscribers have received specific notifications

> Maintain consistent tone and branding across all email notifications to improve customer trust and reduce confusion.

## Which email notifications should I enable?

Here are the most commonly enabled email notifications:

| Cancel subscription | Triggers when a subscriber cancels their subscription | Enable in Skio or send via Klaviyo |
| Billing reminder | Triggers before the next subscription order processes (3 days by default) | Enable in Skio or send via Klaviyo |
| Billing attempt failed | Triggers when a credit card is declined or outdated | Enable in Skio or send via Klaviyo |
| Order confirmation | Triggers when a subscription order has been processed | Send via Shopify or Klaviyo |

Quick Actions are links you can include in emails or SMS that let subscribers manage their subscriptions—like skipping a delivery, updating payment details, or swapping products—without logging into the Customer Portal.
