Segments Dashboard

Prev Next

The Segments Dashboard is Skio's most granular analytics tool, letting you apply custom segments of subscriptions to track performance, revenue, and retention over time.

Note: In the Skio Dashboard, this page's header reads Segments Analytics, with a banner underneath still labeled Segments Dashboard. Both names refer to the same page.

Before you start

  • Check your dashboard version: This guide covers the latest version of the Segments Dashboard.

  • Permissions required: You need admin access or access to analytics to view the Segments Dashboard.

  • Data refresh frequency: The dashboard updates every four hours. Data for the current day may lag slightly compared to real-time Shopify reporting.

  • Default view: By default, the dashboard displays metrics for all subscriptions in your selected date range. Applying a custom segment filters the entire dashboard to only subscriptions matching that segment's conditions. Dynamic segments sync nightly at 12am EST to automatically add newly matching subscriptions and remove ones that no longer qualify.

What is the Segments Dashboard?

The Segments Dashboard provides granular insights into custom groups of subscriptions. It answers questions like:

  • How does Surprise & Delight impact subscription value and retention?

  • How do Cancel Flow saves impact subscription value and retention post-save?

  • What actions are taken by subscriptions, and how do they impact KPIs and retention?

  • What are the KPIs of subscriptions created in a specific time period?

  • What's the shipping interval distribution for your subscriptions?

  • How many products were added to, removed from, or are currently active in subscriptions?

Filters and KPI cards

At the top of the dashboard, you'll find:

  • Date range: Tracks all actions and orders processed for subscriptions active at some point in the selected range.

  • Compared to: Compares your selected period against a prior period. Defaults to Previous period, with options for previous year, quarter, or month depending on your date range, or a custom comparison period.

  • Net sales / Gross sales: Toggles whether revenue-based metrics reflect net (after discounts) or gross (before discounts) values. Defaults to Net. This affects the Total Revenue, Average Order Value, and Average Revenue per Customer KPI cards, as well as the Revenue, AOV, and ARG columns (and their "without action" pairs) in the audit log table.

  • Segment filter: Applies a custom segment to filter the whole dashboard. Defaults to All subscriptions.

The KPI cards, in order:

  • Total Subscriptions: Count of all subscriptions active at some point in the date range.

  • Subscriptions Created: Count of subscriptions created within the date range.

  • Subscriptions Cancelled: Count of subscriptions that were active at some point but now have a cancelled status.

  • Total Revenue: Sum of the order total of all orders processed in the date range.

  • Total Orders: Count of all orders processed in the date range.

  • Average Order Value: Average order value across all orders processed in the date range.

  • Average Revenue per Customer: Total revenue in the date range divided by the number of distinct customers.

  • Average Order Count: Average number of orders processed per subscription in the date range.

The Average Revenue per Customer KPI card and the ARG column in the audit log table below use different denominators. The KPI card is revenue per distinct customer, while the audit log table's ARG is revenue per subscription. Keep this distinction in mind when comparing the two.

Audit log table

The audit log table tracks all actions taken on subscriptions and ties them directly to revenue metrics to assess their impact. For each action, you'll see:

  • Action: The name of the action performed on the subscription.

  • Count: Total number of times the action occurred in the date range. This can be higher than Subscriptions if a single subscription triggers the same action more than once.

  • Subscriptions: Count of distinct subscriptions that had this action performed in the date range.

  • Revenue: Revenue generated by subscriptions that had the action performed.

  • Orders: Orders processed by subscriptions that had the action performed.

  • AOV: Average order value of subscriptions that had the action performed.

  • ARG: Average revenue generated per subscription that had the action performed.

  • AOC: Average order count of subscriptions that had the action performed.

  • AOV, ARG, and AOC (without action): The same three metrics for the control group: subscriptions that did not have the action performed. Scroll right to see these columns.

Note: Values in this table are lifetime values as of today and do not adjust based on the date filter applied to the rest of the dashboard.

Common actions to track:

  • 1-time add-ons

  • Quick Actions

  • Skips

  • Swaps

  • Surprise and Delight gift applied

  • Automations/Journeys

  • Bulk Operations

  • Reactivations

  • Pause

  • Update Payment Method

Products breakdown table

This table provides a breakdown of all active products in the segment, with two tabs.

The Overview tab shows:

  • Product: The product title. May appear as multiple rows if there are multiple variants or SKUs.

  • Active Subscriptions: Number of active subscription lines associated with the product.

  • Active Subscribers: Number of unique customers subscribed to the product.

  • Active Quantity: Total quantity of the product currently active in subscriptions, as of the end of the date range.

  • Gained Quantity: Count of times the product was added to a subscription in the date range, including new subscriptions or recurring product adds.

  • Lost Quantity: Count of times the product was removed from a subscription in the date range, including cancelled subscriptions or removed products.

The KPI tab shows financial metrics for the same products: First Time Revenue, Recurring Revenue, Total Revenue, First Time Orders, Recurring Orders, Total Orders, First Time AOV, Recurring AOV, and Total AOV.

Note: There's a separate Top Products table above this one on the dashboard, with its own toggle between Subscription Revenue, Subscriptions, Gained Quantity, and Lost Quantity. Don't confuse it with the Products Breakdown table described here.

Shipping interval breakdown

This section shows the distribution of subscriptions by shipping frequency, such as every 30 days versus every 60 days. It doesn't adjust based on the date filter, but will adjust for product filters and segment filters applied to the dashboard.

Monthly breakdown

This table shows retention rate by month per subscription cohort (grouped by the month the subscription was created), along with retention by order count.

  • View toggle: Switches between Retention, Revenue, LTV, AOC, Orders, and Retention (Orders) views for the same cohorts. Defaults to Retention by month.

  • Cohort date selector: Indicates the month each row's subscriptions started. Retention is tracked for these subscriptions over time, month by month.

This table is marked Not affected by date range filtering: it ignores the date range entirely, but still respects any segment filter you've applied.
