# Upgrading from Customer Portal v2 to Customer Portal v3

## What is the difference between Customer Portal v2 and v3?

[Customer Portal v3](/help/docs/customer-portal-v3-overview) (CPv3) is a redesigned version of Skio’s customer portal that focuses on clearer navigation, easier subscription management, and faster customization. [Customer Portal v2](/help/docs/customer-portal-v2-walkthrough) (CPv2) is a legacy, settings-driven portal maintained to support older configurations and interface elements.

### Key differences

> [!NOTE]
> User interface (UI) refers to the on-screen layout, buttons, menus, and visual elements that customers interact with in the customer portal.

| Area | CPv3 | CPv2 |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Layout and navigation** | Card-based subscription view that makes it easier for customers to scan and manage multiple subscriptions with less scrolling. ![Skio offers subscription services with cashback credits and active subscription details.](https://cdn.us.document360.io/a953bba6-c70d-43ce-bc77-d7f32a8fc514/Images/Documentation/CleanShot 2026-02-27 at 13.46.47.png) | List-style layout with subscription actions primarily accessed at the bottom of each subscription. ![Subscription details including billing, shipping information, and product pricing for a new item.](https://cdn.us.document360.io/a953bba6-c70d-43ce-bc77-d7f32a8fc514/Images/Documentation/CleanShot 2026-02-27 at 13.39.55(1).png) |
| **Action placement** | Primary actions like *Get now* and *Skip* appear at the top of the UI, with secondary actions grouped into a **More** menu. ![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/a953bba6-c70d-43ce-bc77-d7f32a8fc514/Images/Documentation/CleanShot 2026-02-27 at 14.01.32.gif) | Actions can be enabled, disabled, and reordered, but usually appear lower on the page, with less-frequently used actions grouped into a **More** menu. ![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/a953bba6-c70d-43ce-bc77-d7f32a8fc514/Images/Documentation/CleanShot 2026-02-27 at 15.44.09.gif) |
| **Customization experience** | Real-time, drag-and-drop portal builder with desktop and mobile previews, plus a save-and-publish workflow. ![Customize your customer portal with subscription options and promotional banners for rewards.](https://cdn.us.document360.io/a953bba6-c70d-43ce-bc77-d7f32a8fc514/Images/Documentation/CleanShot 2026-02-27 at 14.20.01.png) | Granular settings and advanced customization via custom CSS and code blocks, managed outside of a visual builder. ![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/a953bba6-c70d-43ce-bc77-d7f32a8fc514/Images/Documentation/CleanShot 2026-02-27 at 14.17.13.gif) |
| **Visual design and UI behavior** | Cleaner, modernized UI with simplified displays for subscription details, branding, and banners. | Includes legacy UI elements and display toggles, such as discount chips and other subscription-level indicators that are not part of CPv3. |

## How do I upgrade from CPv2 to CPv3?

> [!WARNING]
> We strongly recommend [previewing CPv3](/help/docs/migrating-from-customer-portal-v2-to-customer-portal-v3#how-can-i-preview-cpv3) before upgrading. Reverting from CPv3 back to CPv2 is not recommended and should only be considered in rare edge-case scenarios.

To upgrade from CPv2 to CPv3:

1. In your Skio Dashboard, click the **Storefront** dropdown and select **Customer Portal**.
2. Click **Customize now** at the top of your Portal settings page. ![Settings page for customizing the customer portal with various options and features.](https://cdn.us.document360.io/a953bba6-c70d-43ce-bc77-d7f32a8fc514/Images/Documentation/CleanShot 2026-02-26 at 15.05.58.png)
3. Customize your portal to match your store’s branding, then click **Upgrade & Publish** when you’re ready to go live.

## How can I preview CPv3?

You can preview CPv3 on your live site using URL parameters, allowing you to test changes without affecting the customer experience.

To preview CPv3 prior to upgrading:

1. In your Skio Dashboard, click the **Storefront** dropdown and select **Customer Portal**. Click **Customize now** at the top of your Portal settings page.
  - Alternatively, click this link to navigate directly to the page: [Upgrade customer portal](https://dashboard.skio.com/upgrade-customer-portal)
2. Customize your settings and click Save. Do not click Upgrade & Publish yet.
3. Go to your store’s account page (`yourstore.com/a/account/subscriptions`) and add `?forcePreview=true` to the URL.
  - Example: `yourstore.com/a/account/subscriptions?forcePreview=true`

> [!NOTE]
> This allows you to see an accurate preview of CPv3. This only applies to your current browser session and customers will continue to see your published portal version.

Your Skio Dashboard is the backend view of Skio where you manage your subscription program. This is the page you see when you log in to the Skio app, and it's where you'll configure products, view customer data, adjust settings, and access analytics to monitor your subscription performance.
