# Migrating to Journeys from Automations

## Before you start

> [!WARNING]
> This guide is only applicable to stores currently using Automations. If your store is already using [Journeys](/help/docs/understanding-skio-journeys), this article does not apply to your setup.

Automations is Skio's original system for setting up simple event-based workflows like sending emails or applying tags when a subscription renews, skips, or cancels. It's been deprecated and replaced by [Journeys](/help/docs/understanding-skio-journeys), which offers more flexibility, control, and advanced workflow options.

## Why don't I see the Automations tab in my dashboard anymore?

Automations is deprecated. If your store is using Automations, you'll be prompted to migrate to Journeys when you visit that section of the **Skio Dashboard**.

## Why should I migrate to Journeys?

Journeys is the current, actively maintained system for building subscription workflows. It adds a drag-and-drop builder, more triggers and actions across the subscription lifecycle, deeper integrations with tools like Klaviyo, and better visibility into workflow performance.

With Journeys, you can swap trial products for full versions, apply discounts at specific milestones, adjust shipping intervals, or trigger custom banners in the Customer Portal. All future improvements are built in Journeys.

## What should I know before migrating?

Migration is straightforward, but there are a couple of things to be aware of before you start:

- **It's a one-way process:**Once you migrate to Journeys, you can't go back to Automations.
- **Your workflows carry over automatically:**All of your Automations are copied into Journeys in the same enabled or disabled state they were in.

## How do I migrate to Journeys?

1. In your **Skio Dashboard**, go to **Features** > **Automations**.
2. Click **Migrate to Journeys** at the top of the page. ![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/a953bba6-c70d-43ce-bc77-d7f32a8fc514/Images/Documentation/CleanShot 2026-04-01 at 14.15.47.png)
3. Confirm the migration by selecting **Migrate**. Skio handles the rest automatically. ![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/a953bba6-c70d-43ce-bc77-d7f32a8fc514/Images/Documentation/CleanShot 2026-04-01 at 14.16.26.png)
4. Once the migration is complete, your Automations are disabled and you won't be able to create new ones. You'll be ready to start building in **Retain** > **Journeys**. ![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/a953bba6-c70d-43ce-bc77-d7f32a8fc514/Images/Documentation/CleanShot 2026-04-01 at 14.21.03.png)
