# Managing Skio user permissions

## Overview

The **User Permissions** feature in the Skio Dashboard allows store owners and administrators to control what their team members and other users can access. This is a change from the previous setup where all accounts had full access to all features.

## Before you start

- Only **Store Owners** and **Admins** can manage permissions.
- Permissions determine which sections an account can access within the Skio Admin Dashboard.
- For detailed descriptions of each permission, see the [**Description of User Permissions**](/help/docs/description-of-user-permissions) article.

## Roles overview

1. **Store Owner** (Uneditable)
  - The primary account holder with full control over all store settings, billing, Subscription Management, user roles, and permissions.
  - This role is automatically assigned based on the store owner in Shopify.
2. **Admin** (Uneditable)
  - A role with broad access to manage team members, assign roles, and oversee most store operations, excluding ownership-specific functions.
3. **Member** (Editable)
  - A restricted role with access limited to specific tasks assigned by Admins or the Store Owner, without management privileges.
  - This is the default role for all new users who access the Skio Admin Dashboard for the first time.

## Managing user permissions

### View or edit permissions for existing accounts

1. **Navigate to User Management**:

Click on **Account menu**in your Skio dashboard and select **Users**. You’ll see a list of all existing accounts, including those created automatically when a user first accessed the Skio dashboard. ![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/a953bba6-c70d-43ce-bc77-d7f32a8fc514/Images/Documentation/CleanShot 2026-02-05 at 13.42.32.png)
2. **Remove a user or change a user’s name:** Click the pencil icon beside a user’s name to remove a user or update their name. ![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/a953bba6-c70d-43ce-bc77-d7f32a8fc514/Images/Documentation/CleanShot 2026-04-09 at 10.21.18(1).png)
3. **Edit Permissions**:

Click on any account to open the **Account Details** page.
  - Alternatively, select multiple accounts using the checkboxes for **bulk updates**.
  - From the details view, you can:
    - Change the user’s role
    - Assign specific permission overwrites
    - Overwritten permissions are marked with a green asterisk.
4. **Save Changes**:

Click **Save Changes** to apply updates.

### Bulk edit users

To apply changes to multiple users simultaneously:

1. **Select Multiple Users**:
  - Click on **Account menu**in your Skio dashboard and select **Users**.
  - Use the checkboxes to select the users you want to update.
2. **Apply Changes**:
  - Choose the new role or permissions from the **Permissions** panel.
  - Click **Save Changes** to update all selected users.

## Edit default role permissions

The default role for new users entering the Skio Admin Dashboard is **Member**. To change the default permission set for this role:

1. **Access Role Settings**:
  - Click on **Account menu**in your Skio dashboard and select **Users**
  - Select the **Roles** tab at the top of the navigation.
2. **Edit Role Permissions**:
  - Choose the role you wish to update (currently, only **Member** is editable).
  - Customize the permissions you want to grant for this role.
  - Click **Save** to apply changes.

## Invite new users to the Store

By default, new user accounts are created automatically when someone accesses the Skio Admin Dashboard and is assigned the **Member** role.

Users will not have access to the dashboard until their account is approved by a Store Owner or Admin. If you’d like to preemptively add users to your storefront:

1. **Invite New User**:
  - Click on **Account menu**in your Skio dashboard and select **Users**.
  - Click **Invite User** in the top right corner.
2. **Enter User Details**:
  - Fill in the user's name, email, role, and any specific overwritten permissions.
  - Click **Save** to send an invitation via email.

## How do overwrites work?

Overwrites allow for flexible permission management by letting you:

- Grant exceptions to standard role permissions
- Customize access without changing the user’s primary role

**Important Notes**:

- Overwritten permissions are indicated by a green asterisk.
- If the role's permissions change to match an overwrite, the permission is synced and no longer considered an overwrite.
- This ensures consistency and flexibility in managing user access.

## Additional information

- Store Owners are automatically assigned based on the Shopify store owner.
- Users who accessed the Skio dashboard before **March 5th, 2025** will automatically be granted **Admin** privileges.
- All users who access the dashboard after this date are assigned the **Member** role by default
