# Loyalty program setup example: Credits and Tiers

## Loyalty program summary

This example walks through how to configure a loyalty program that includes:

- **Credits earned per dollar spent**
- **Account creation credits**: Customers earn 100 credits when they create an account.
- **Tier multipliers for Bronze, Silver, and Gold**

The table below shows the tier structure and earning rates.

| Tier | Earn rate | Entry requirement |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Bronze | 1 credit per $1 spent | 1 purchase |
| Silver | 2x credits per $1 spent | Spend $200 OR 3 purchases |
| Gold | 3x credits per $1 spent | Spend $600 OR 7 purchases |

## Step 1: Configure Credit settings

1. In your Skio Dashboard, click **Loyalty**then select **Credits**. 2. Optional: Add a Custom name for your credits, enter a label (for example, *Reward Points*), or leave blank to use *Credits*.
3. Set the currency to credit conversion rate to **20**. This means that 1 USD = 20 credits.
4. Optional: Add a Loyalty discount code prefix (for example, *LOYALTY*), or leave blank.
5. Choose if the loyalty balance card in the Customer Portal displays in the **Currency value** or **Credit value**.
6. Optional: Add an expiration to the credits. Toggle **on** to enable credit expiration, or leave **off** if credits should never expire.
  1. In this example, a credit expiration of 6 months is set after the customer receives credits.
7. Choose where credits can be redeemed and what types of purchases credits can be redeemed for.
8. In **Combining credits and discounts**, configure how credits interact with Shopify discount codes.
  1. These settings do **not**apply retroactively to existing discounts.
9. Optional: Add credit redemption guardrails, configure any of the following limits:
  - **Minimum cart value (USD)**
    - Setting a minimum cart value helps prevent customers from covering low-value orders entirely with credits.
  - **Maximum credits per order**
  - **Allow credits to stack with order-level discounts**
10. Optional: In **Excluding products from earning credits**, select any products that should not generate credits when purchased.
11. Choose who can utilize credits. We recommend starting with **Enable credits for select customers** and add your own email so you can test the experience before launching.
12. Click **Done editing**and **Save changes**to confirm your changes.

## Step 2: Configure Credit rewards

> [!NOTE]
> Configure each reward separately as rewards must be added one at a time.

1. Scroll to the Your rewards section and click **+Add reward**, then select **Credits per USD spent**.
2. Set the Number of credits rewarded per USD spent value to **1**. This sets the base earning rate to **1 credit per $1 spent**.
3. Choose the order type that credits can apply to. In this scenario, credits apply to All orders.
4. Optionally add a custom title, description, and icon, or leave these fields blank.
5. 6. Click **+Add reward**to create the next reward and select **Create an account** from the list.
7. Set the reward value to **100 credits**, make sure the toggle is enabled next to **Active**and click **Create reward**to save the account creation credit reward.
8. Optionally, add additional rewards such as reward credit for the customer’s birthday, signing up for a newsletter, or leaving a review.

9. Click **Save changes** to ensure all configuration is saved.

## Step 3: Enable Credits

After testing your configuration:

1. Click **Edit** in Global credit settings.
2. Under Enable loyalty credits, select **Enable credits for all customers**.

Credits are now live for all customers.

## Step 4: Configure Tier settings

1. In your Skio dashboard, click **Loyalty**, then select **Tiers & Rewards**. Click **Edit** next to **Global tier settings**.
2. Choose who can access loyalty tiers. We recommend starting with **Enable tiers for select customers** and adding your own email so you can test the experience before launching.
3. Choose a Tier duration timeline to determine how long customers remain in a tier after qualifying. In this example, Rolling year is selected and tier status will expire one year after activation.
4. Choose a Default evaluation timeline for tier conditions to determine how customer eligibility is calculated. In this example, Rolling year is selected and eligibility will be evaluated on the last year.
  1. Optional: Set an evaluation start date if you want the evaluation window to begin from a specific point in time.
5. Click **Done editing**, then **Save changes** to confirm your tier settings.

## Step 5: Create Tiers

### Create the Bronze Tier

1. In your Skio dashboard, click **Loyalty**, then select **Tiers & Rewards**. Scroll down to the Your tiers section and click **+Add new tier**. For the first tier, enter **Bronze** as the tier name and a description for the tier.
  1. You can also enter an eligibility description that will display on the [Customer Portal Rewards](/help/docs/overview-of-the-customer-portal-rewards-page) page once the program is live.

3. If you have a [Rewards landing page](/help/docs/how-to-set-up-the-rewards-landing-page), you can link this under the **Details url**so customers can understand what your Loyalty program encompasses.
4. Under Eligibility requirements, click **AND Requirement**to add conditions for entering this tier.

6. Next, configure the rewards for the Bronze tier. Click **Add reward** and select **Credit multiplier**.
7. Add a name of the reward (for example, *1 point for every $1 spent*). Set the reward application to **Indefinitely** from the dropdown. Set the earned credits multiplier to **1**.
8. Click **Create reward** to save the reward.
9. Click **Create tier** to create the Bronze tier, then click **Save changes** to save your changes so far.

### Create the Silver Tier

1. Click **+Add new tier** again and enter **Silver** as the tier name. Add the description, eligibility description, and an optional icon.
2. Under eligibility requirements, click **AND Requirement**, then select **Order count**. Set the value to **3**.
3. Click **AND Requirement** again and select **Customer spend**. Set the value to **$200**. Customers qualify for the Silver tier by meeting either condition.
4. Click **Add reward** and select **Credit multiplier**. Add a name of the reward (for example,*2 points for every $1 spent*). Set the reward application to **Indefinitely** from the dropdown. Set the earned credits multiplier to **2**. Click **Create reward** to save the reward.
5. Click **Create tier** to create the Silver tier, then click **Save changes** to save your changes so far.

### Create the Gold Tier

1. Click **+Add new tier** again and enter Gold as the tier name. Add the description, eligibility description, and an optional icon.
2. Under eligibility requirements, click **AND Requirement**, then select **Order count**. Set the value to **7**.
3. Click **AND Requirement** again and select **Customer spend**. Set the value to **$600**. Customers qualify for the Gold tier by meeting either condition.
4. Click **Add reward** and select **Credit multiplier**. Add a name of the reward (for example,*3 points for every $1 spent*). Set the reward application to **Indefinitely** from the dropdown. Set the earned credits multiplier to **3**. Click **Create reward** to save the reward.
5. Click **Create tier** to create the Gold tier.
6. Click **Save changes**.
7. After creating all tiers, verify the tier order in **Your tiers.**If necessary, drag tiers using the **six-dot icon** to reorder them. Skio evaluates tiers from **top to bottom**, so the highest tier should appear first.

## Step 6: Enable Tiers

After testing your configuration:

1. Click **Edit** next to **Global tier settings**.
2. In **Enable loyalty tiers**, select **Enable tiers for all customers**.

Tiers are now live for all customers.

Your Skio Dashboard is the backend view of Skio where you manage your subscription program. This is the page you see when you log in to the Skio app, and it's where you'll configure products, view customer data, adjust settings, and access analytics to monitor your subscription performance.
