# Local Delivery & Local Pickup

## What is Local delivery and pickup?

Local delivery and pickup allow customers near your business to receive subscription orders through alternate methods instead of standard shipping. **Local delivery** brings orders directly to customers in your area, while **local pickup** lets customers collect orders from your location.

## Why use local delivery and pickup?

Offering local options benefits both you and your customers:

- **Faster fulfillment**: Eliminate shipping transit time for nearby customers
- **Better customer experience**: Give subscribers convenient options that fit their preferences
- **Reduced shipping costs**: Lower your operational expenses on local orders

## How do I set it up?

Local delivery and pickup work automatically with Skio once you configure them in Shopify, no additional setup required in your **Skio Dashboard**.

### Step 1: Configure local delivery or pickup in Shopify

1. Follow [Shopify's documentation on setting up local delivery and pickup](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/shipping/setting-up-and-managing-your-shipping/local-methods)
2. Once configured, these options will automatically become available for subscription orders in Skio

## What you need to know

### Local pickup limitations

**Once a subscription uses local pickup, the delivery method cannot be changed.** Customers cannot switch from local pickup to standard shipping or local delivery after the subscription is created.

If you delete the local pickup option in Shopify while active subscriptions are set to use it, those subscriptions will fail to bill. You'll need to manually intervene to resolve these billing failures.

The "Update Subscription Shipping Price" feature does not apply to local pickup. Merchants typically set pickup as free when configuring it in Shopify.

### Local delivery limitations

If you delete the local delivery option in Shopify or a customer updates their subscription address to a location outside your local delivery area, the subscription will fail to bill and require manual intervention.

The "Update Subscription Shipping Price" feature works with local delivery, letting you set a fixed delivery rate.
