How to connect Claude to the Skio Data MCP

Prev Next

Before you start

  • You need a Skio Dashboard login with Admin or Analytics access. If you can view Analytics in your dashboard, you're set.

  • You need an AI tool that supports remote MCP connectors, such as Claude. Connector support can depend on your AI tool's plan, so check with your AI tool provider if you don't see the option.

  • Skio Data MCP is available on every Skio store. There's nothing to turn on inside the Skio Dashboard.

How do I connect Claude to Skio Data MCP?

You connect from inside Claude, not from the Skio Dashboard. You'll add Skio as a custom connector, then sign in to Skio to approve read-only access to your analytics. To learn what you can ask once you're connected, see Getting started with Skio Data MCP.

Step 1: Add a custom connector

  1. In Claude, go to Customize > Connectors.

  2. Click Add.

  3. Enter a name, like Skio MCP, and paste this URL in the URL field: https://mcp.skio.com/mcp

  4. Click Continue.

Using a different AI tool? Look for connector or integration settings and add a remote MCP connector using the same URL.

On Claude Team or Enterprise plans, an organization owner may need to add the connector before other members can connect.

Step 2: Keep the default authentication settings

Claude checks the URL and selects the right authentication settings for you. You can leave these defaults selected or adjust as needed, then click Add:

  • Authentication: Sign in now.

  • OAuth client: Register automatically.

Step 3: Connect and approve access

On the Skio MCP connector page, click Connect.

  1. You'll be taken to a Skio approval page.

  2. Review the request for read-only access to your store's subscription analytics, then click Approve.

  3. You'll be sent back to Claude automatically. There's no separate confirmation page in Skio, so landing back in Claude means you're connected. If you cancel or the approval doesn't go through, nothing is connected and you can try again.

Step 4: Choose tool permissions (optional)

By default, Claude asks for your approval each time it uses a Skio tool. To skip these prompts, go to Customize > Connectors > Skio MCP and change Needs approval to Always allow. You can change this for all tools at once or for each tool individually.

Step 5: Ask your first question

Include a specific date range in your questions. If you don't, the connector defaults to the last 30 days. For more tips, see Getting started with Skio Data MCP.

Start a new chat in Claude, make sure the Skio connector is turned on, and ask a question about your store. For example:

Show my subscription revenue, active subscriber count, and churn rate for the past 7 days compared to the prior 7 days.

Troubleshooting

Why can't I get past the Skio approval page?

Your Skio login most likely doesn't have analytics access. Approving the connection requires the same access as viewing analytics in your Skio Dashboard.

  1. Confirm you can open Analytics in your Skio Dashboard.

  2. If you can't, ask your store's admin to give your account Admin or Analytics access.

  3. Try connecting again.

Why did my connection stop working?

Connections renew automatically for about 30 days. After that, you need to reconnect and approve access again. This is expected and doesn't mean anything is broken.

To reconnect in Claude, go to Customize > Connectors > Skio MCP, click Connect, and approve access on the Skio page.

If you connected recently, you may have reached your store's daily usage limit instead. It resets on its own.

Why can't my AI tool reach Skio?

Your AI tool may not support custom remote MCP connectors. Some AI tools, plans, and older app versions don't.

  • Check support: Confirm your AI tool and plan let you add a custom connector by URL.

  • Update the app: If you use a desktop or mobile app, make sure it's on the latest version.

  • Check the URL: Make sure the connector URL is exactly https://mcp.skio.com/mcp.

Why do the numbers look wrong?

The data matches your Skio Dashboard, so a number that looks wrong usually means your AI tool interpreted the question differently than you meant. For example, it may have matched the wrong segment or product, or used a different date range.

  1. Compare the answer with the same view in Skio Dashboard > Analytics, using the same date range.

  2. Ask your AI tool which date range, segment, or product it used.

  3. Rephrase the question more specifically. For tips, see Skio Data MCP: Example prompts and use cases.

If the dashboard and your AI tool still disagree after a specific question, contact Skio support. Include the question you asked and the answer you got.
