# Getting started with Selling Plans

## What are selling plans?

Selling Plans are the subscription types you offer to customers for purchase. They define the recurring purchase options displayed on your product pages, quiz flows, and checkout—giving customers flexible ways to subscribe to the products they love.

Skio offers three types of Selling Plans:

- **Subscribe and Save**: Offer a percentage or fixed discount on products purchased at recurring intervals
- **Prepaid**: Let subscribers pay for multiple shipments upfront, with discounts to incentivize prepayment
- **Build-a-Box**: Allow customers to build a customized box of their favorite products

Use Selling Plans to attract subscribers with discounts, lock in upfront revenue, and create longer-lasting customer relationships that improve Customer Lifetime Value (LTV).

### Why use selling plans?

- **Attract more subscribers**: Subscription discounts incentivize customers to commit to recurring purchases
- **Reduce purchase friction**: Subscriptions eliminate the need for customers to repeatedly buy products they use regularly
- **Lock in revenue**: Prepaid subscriptions secure confirmed revenue upfront
- **Increase lifetime value**: Subscriptions create longer customer relationships and opportunities for upselling directly in the Customer Portal
- **Offer flexibility**: Give customers control over their subscription frequency and product selection

## Create a Subscribe & Save Selling Plan

### Step 1: Navigate to Selling Plans

In the lefthand menu of your Skio Dashboard, go to **Products** **>** **Selling Plans**.

### Step 2: Set up your Subscribe & Save plan

1. Click **Create New Plan** in the top right corner.
2. Select **Create Subscribe & Save**.
3. Enter a plan name (internal use only) and select your Shipping Profile.
4. Select the products you want to add to the plan.

> [!NOTE]
> Select **Managed by Shopify** to let Shopify handle shipping automatically. Otherwise, create custom [Shipping Profiles](/help/docs/shipping-settings#how-to-create-a-custom-shipping-profile-in-skio) to manage shipping yourself.

### Step 3: Configure subscription intervals

1. Enter a selling plan name. This is customer-facing and should reflect the interval (e.g., "`Every month`", "`Every 2 weeks`").
2. Specify **Billing and delivery intervals**(set by day, week, or month)
3. Apply a percentage discount (**percentage off**) or set a fixed price (**set price**) under **Pricing policy**. Note: If you select **Set price**, the amount you enter becomes the new price—it won't be calculated as a discount off the original.
4. (Optional) Set a **minimum** or **maximum number of cycles** to lock customers in for a set number of orders or cap total orders.
5. Add as many intervals to this Selling Plan as needed.
6. Click **Save** in the top right corner.

### Step 4: (optional) Configure a recurring pricing policy for future prepaid cycles

In the **Advanced** section, you can set a recurring pricing policy to display at checkout for future cycles if the discount will change after the first order.

This is helpful if you have a “trial” or “starter kit” version of a product, where the initial order discount will be different from the recurring discount at any point.

- **After cycle**: Choose how many cycles should pass before the discount is applied.
- **Pricing method**: Select between percentage or fixed price.
- **Discount**: Set the discount value.

> [!CAUTION]
> **Warning**
>
> This setting only affects the price displayed at checkout. You must also [use a Journey](/help/docs/understanding-skio-journeys) to actually update product pricing for future cycles.

## Create a Build-a-Box Selling Plan

The setup process for Build-a-Box Selling Plans depends on the type of box you're creating:

- **Dynamic Build-a-Box**: Customers choose products from a curated selection each billing cycle. [Learn how to set up Dynamic Build-a-Box](/help/docs/dynamic-build-a-box-setup-guide) selling plan.
- **Static Build-a-Box**: The setup process is the same as creating a Subscribe & Save Selling Plan. During product selection, choose the Static Box you created and add it to the Selling Plan.

Choose the Build-a-Box type that matches your setup, then follow the step-by-step guide to create your Selling Plan.

## How customers purchase subscriptions

Once you create Selling Plans, they automatically appear in the Skio Plan Picker on your product pages. Customers can select their preferred subscription option at checkout.

You can install the plan picker yourself using [Skio's self-serve tool](/help/docs/self-serve-install-setup), or work with the [Skio Migrations team](/help/docs/migrations-with-skios-team).

### FAQ

#### What happens to existing subscribers when I modify Selling Plans?

All existing subscriptions continue operating under the original pricing and intervals that were in place when they started. Existing subscriptions are not automatically updated when you modify a Selling Plan.

If you need to update existing subscriptions, use Skio's bulk operations tool for pricing changes, or contact help@skio.com for assistance from the Technical Support team.

#### Can I change the order selling plans appear on my storefront?

Yes. You can change the order of the selling plans by navigating to **Products** > **Selling Plans**and selecting the desired selling plan. Use the arrows next to a selling plan's ID to reorder your plans, move them up or down until they're in the order you want. Be sure to click **Save** once the selling plans are re-ordered to confirm your changes.

#### Can I have multiple Selling Plans for the same product?

Yes. You can add a product to multiple Selling Plans—either a combination of prepaid and subscribe & save, or a combination of different intervals. This gives customers more subscription options for the same product.

#### Can I offer different discounts for different intervals?

Yes. When setting up a Selling Plan, you can configure unique discounts for each interval you add. For example, you might offer 10% off monthly subscriptions and 15% off quarterly subscriptions.

#### How do I remove a product from a Selling Plan?

Navigate to the Selling Plan in your **Skio Dashboard**, locate the product you want to remove, and click the remove or delete option. This does not affect existing subscriptions using that Selling Plan.

#### Can customers change their subscription interval after purchasing?

Yes. Customers can update their subscription frequency through the customer portal, as long as the new interval is available in an active Selling Plan for that product.

The Customer Portal is an interface that allows subscribers to manage their subscriptions, including options to pause, modify, or cancel their subscription plans.

Your Skio Dashboard is the backend view of Skio where you manage your subscription program. This is the page you see when you log in to the Skio app, and it's where you'll configure products, view customer data, adjust settings, and access analytics to monitor your subscription performance.

The Skio Plan Picker is the subscription widget that displays on your product detail pages, allowing customers to choose between one-time purchases and subscription. The settings are configured in your **Selling Plans.**
