Cancel compliance & EU right of withdrawal settings

Prev Next

Cancel compliance settings help you meet cancellation laws in specific US states and EU countries. Skio uses each customer's shipping address to decide which rules apply.

Before you start

  • You need at least one active Cancel Flow. See How to create and manage Cancel Flows.

  • These are global settings, so they apply to all your Cancel Flows.

  • Consult your legal counsel to decide which regions to add and which settings to follow.

What are Cancel compliance settings?

There are two separate settings. Cancel compliance controls what customers see in your Cancel Flow. EU right of withdrawal controls whether EU customers can cancel past a minimum cycle or commitment in their first 14 days.

What it does

Cancel compliance

US states and EU countries you add

Changes the cancel flow, like letting customers cancel at any step

EU right of withdrawal

EU countries you add

Lets customers cancel within 14 days of starting their subscription, even with a minimum cycle or commitment

Warning: Adding an EU country to Cancel compliance doesn't lift a minimum cycle or commitment. To let EU customers cancel in their first 14 days even with a minimum, also add the country to EU right of withdrawal.

How to set up Cancel compliance

Turn on Cancel compliance, add your states and countries, then choose a compliance setting for each one.

Step 1: Open Cancel Flow settings

In the left-hand menu of your Skio Dashboard, go to Retain > Cancel Flow, then click Settings.

Step 2: Add states and EU countries

  1. Turn on the Cancel compliance toggle.

  2. Click Add a state to add a US state, or Add an EU country to add an EU country, then select it from the list.

To take a state or country off the list, click Remove next to it.

What customers see

Cancel available at every step

Your full Cancel Flow, including any offers. They can cancel from any step without finishing the flow.

Cancel immediately, ask why after

No offers. The subscription is cancelled as soon as they open the flow. They're asked why afterward and can skip the question.

How to set up EU right of withdrawal

Turn on EU right of withdrawal and add the countries where customers should get the 14-day withdrawal period. Nothing changes until you add at least one country.

  1. In the left-hand menu of your Skio Dashboard, go to Retain > Cancel Flow, then click Settings.

  2. Turn on the EU right of withdrawal toggle.

  3. Add the countries where customers should get the 14-day withdrawal period.

FAQ

How does Skio know which region a customer is in?

Skio uses the shipping address on the customer's subscription.

Can EU customers cancel before their minimum cycles if I add their country to Cancel compliance?

No. Cancel compliance only changes the cancel flow. To let EU customers cancel within their first 14 days despite a minimum cycle or commitment, add the country to EU right of withdrawal.

What happens after the 14-day withdrawal period ends?

The subscription's minimum cycle or commitment applies again.

Do these settings apply to all my Cancel Flows?

Yes. They're global settings, so they apply across every Cancel Flow in your store.

Do I need to change anything inside my Cancel Flow for EU compliance?

You may also want to add a right of withdrawal cancellation reason to your flow. See our guide on supporting EU’s right of withdrawal law here.
